🤔 Is there any difference in Procure to Pay (P2P) & Accounts Payable (AP)?

Yes, there is a difference between Procure to Pay (P2P) and Accounts Payable (AP), as P2P is a broader process while AP is a specific component within it. Here’s an elaboration:

👉 Procure to Pay (P2P) – P2P encompasses the entire cycle of acquiring goods or services, starting from identifying a need to making the final payment. It includes following steps:
1-Supplier selection
2-Contract negotiation
3-Purchase orders creation
4-Receipt and verification of goods or services
5 & Last Step – Payment processing
The P2P process integrates procurement and payment activities, ensuring seamless coordination between departments to optimize cost management and supplier relationships.

👉 Accounts Payable (AP) – AP is a subset of the P2P process, specifically focused on managing a company’s financial obligations. It involves below steps:
1-Receiving, processing, and verifying invoices
2-Matching purchase orders and goods receipts with invoices (3-way matching)
3-Ensuring timely payments to suppliers or vendors

In short, while P2P covers the entire journey from procurement to payment, AP is concerned with managing the financial aspect of that process, focusing on invoice handling and vendor payments.
